Saturday, January 28, 2017- Amani

His Mum died shortly after giving birth, probably from blood loss. His Father, Justin, was around, but with no relatives to help him provide milk for his son, he brought Amani to the Baby Home at 10 days old to ask for help.

Justin was a fisherman at the time, working on a small boat out on Lake Victoria.  This is a dangerous profession here as, like many of his colleagues, he cannot swim and mortality rates are high amongst the fishermen.

We started to look at other options for him to work in and decided, with him, to train him to set up a clothing business. He would buy shirts from a wholesaler and sell them in his village square, from a plot very near his home. Shirts are a good choice here as all school children need shirts and most men, in whatever line of business aside from manual labour, will wear shirts.

All through the process, he visited Amani at the Baby Home every week, travelling for an hour and half each way by bus and on foot from his village.

We set Justin up in business in early November 2016 and on our follow up visit last week, he had already increased his stock and his neighbour was helping him to sell the shirts.

He said, "Forever Projects saved my life as well as my son's life. I am in better health and will be able to build a good life for us so that he can come back to me."

Very soon, Amani will return home to live with his Dad - who, because of our support is now able to provide for his son now and in the future.

Tuesday, January 03, 2017- Johnson Gets a Family

Johnson came to Forever Angels in May 2016 when he was about 7 weeks old.

We have loved watching him grow over the last few months...

He is an adorable little boy with the biggest, brown eyes.

We are delighted to report that this week, Johnson was adopted into a new family!

This little boy will be raised with so much love and we are all delighted for him.

Saturday, December 24, 2016- Merry Christmas from all at Forever Projects

I think 2016 has been one of the years I am most proud of since the creation of Forever Angels a decade ago.

Firstly - Forever Angels Baby Home continues to care for and save sick, abandoned and orphaned babies giving them a safe haven at the time they are most vulnerable.

In 2016 we had:

27 new children admitted to Forever Angels Baby Home
14 children adopted into new families
11 children go home to their biological relatives

Just yesterday, in fact, we received a new child - a two year old abandoned girl named Julieth.

Children keep coming and our staff make me so proud by giving them such love and great care day in, day out.

Secondly - our Maisha Matters program has grown so much - now giving life saving formula milk to over 100 new born babies with no lactating mothers and giving their families a chance to dig themselves out of poverty through Business creation.

Maisha Matters has been so successful - we have now grown to a second site at Neema House Orphanage in Geita who we are partnering with to carry out this essential work with at risk, malnourished babies.

The change in the children who enrol in this program after a few months is just incredible - a HUGE testament to the amazing work of their caregivers as well as our dedicated staff.

Forever Angels has grown so much in 2016 that we have changed our name - the name 'Forever Projects' now encapsulates both the Baby Home (Forever Angels) as well as the amazing work we are doing in the community through our Maisha Matters work.

There is so much more I could say, but I think what makes me most proud - is that despite some very difficult times in 2016, both financially and through losing a very valued member of staff - our Mama's and Volunteers and Staff and Managers just keep on going.  They strive every single day to give a happy and loving life to the children in our care - no matter what else is going on in their own lives.

For that - I am so thankful.

Our Team is just incredible and I am greatful every single day for the love and hard work they bring to the children and families we support.

From all our staff and children, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Without YOUR support our work could not continue - so from the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU.

This time of year is all about family and I personally believe I am the luckiest woman alive in that respect.  Our Forever Projects family is simply HUGE...spanning thousands of children and adults whose lives have been touched by our work...and it just keeps growing every day.

I believe the world is a better place because of Forever Projects and I am excited to see what 2017 will bring.

Merry Christmas to you all...

Friday, December 02, 2016- A Busy Few Weeks

It has been a busy few weeks at the Baby Home...mostly with our staff rearranging daily timetables and groupings now that all our big kids have left us to move to SOS Children's Village.

Our Managers went to an official SOS opening last week and they were happy to see the children looking well and settled in their new home.

Last week Nasri went home to his new adoptive family.  This little boy has not been with us very long - but he had such a sweet little personality!  We are so happy for him and his new family.

We had a couple of lovely visitors this week...

First Zawadi and his new adoptive family popped in to say hello.  Zawadi had just been to his Kindergarten Prom at school and was dressed up and looking so smart!

Our Managers were also invited to celebrate Gabriel's 4th birthday with him and they were so happy to see him having such a wonderful day.

We are still selling Christmas Cards, Calendars and Christmas Gift Cards (for those hard to by relatives)...please email amy@foreverangels.org for orders and more information.

And this week our new batch of volunteers are arriving....we are so pleased to have them with us and the children will be thrilled after a few weeks without any.  If you are interested in volunteering in 2017 - we are taking bookings now.  Please email amy@foreverangels.org for more information.
And if you are not able to volunteer...please spread the word to others who may be interested by sharing this poster at your University / Work place etc.

He has grown and flourished in the care of our dedicated staff and volunteers...

And we are so happy that this delightful 3 and a half year old boy will now be raised in a loving family.

We sure will miss this kind, clever and cheeky little boy...but could not be happier that he now has his 'Forever Family'.

Wednesday, November 02, 2016- Monica is Adopted!

After living at Forever Angels for almost four years, since she was just 14 months old...we are thrilled that Monica went home to live with her new adopted family yesterday.

This little girl has brought such joy to the Baby Home and we will all miss her - but our dream for every child is a family and we are so happy that Monica now has hers.

Goodbye beautiful girl....
